“Anytime you’re doing urban infill, you have to be extra concerned about the public’s safety,” said Kevin Sauser, architect for the H16 Apartments project, responding to a question about the specific challenges posed by building in an area with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
“Actually, as it turned out, the majority of our gawkers were other builders and the area’s business owners, all of whom have a stake in the success of projects in Sacramento’s midtown,” he said.
The five-story, 95-unit apartment complex, which originally was envisioned to be only four stories, is at 1601 H St. The new development — which cost about $24 million to build and was completed a year-and-a-half ago — is located on a site that previously served as an overflow parking lot for the Clarion Hotel, which was torn down last year to make way for a mixed-use project.
